About me
Stacey Coonsis, Ed.M. is a Diné educator from the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona and serves as Elementary Head of School at the Native American Community Academy (NACA) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She oversees K–5 academic programming and leads initiatives that strengthen educator capacity and advance culturally grounded curriculum through aligned systems that protect instructional integrity and center Indigenous identity. She has led and taught in communities including Gallup McKinley County Schools and Tohajiilee Community School.
Stacey earned her associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in education from the University of New Mexico and holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She maintains New Mexico teaching and administrative licensure and contributes to Native Literature curriculum development as a writer and consultant.
She has presented nationally at the 2023 Alaska Science of Reading Symposium, the 2023–2025 NISN Native Literature Symposium, and the 2025 Wisconsin Indian Education Association Conference. Her leadership is grounded in Indigenous values and shaped profoundly by motherhood. She collects pens and enjoys sending and receiving postcards—small rituals that reflect her belief in the power of words and connection.
